The University of Georgia is a land grant university. This means that the land it is made on is donated by the federal government. It rested on a 40,000 acre land square donated by the General Assembly. Louisville was made Georgia’s capital because Savannah was too far from the center of Georgia. In 1786 the work on Louisville started and in 1795 the buildings were completed. One year after that Louisville became capital until 1806. After the revolutionary war many people were looking for a religion to follow due to not having to follow Britain’s rules anymore. Many people became Baptists or Methodists because they were growing religions at that time.

36b After the revolutionary war the Indians became a big problem, they wanted their land back and the settlers had it. Aside from that however the federal government kept pushing and taking more of their land especially in Georgia. With all the new land they needed a way to get more settlers living in Georgia so they came up with the Headright system. It offered families 200 acres of land and another 50 acres per person for up to 1,000 acres. After that came the land lotteries. They were just like your normal lottery; you could pay for tickets for a chance to win land! Before that however was the Yazoo land Fraud. This was when a group of rich speculators paid off certain high ranking officials and members of the General assembly to sell land for nearly nothing at all, then the speculators in turn sold that land for much more than they bought it for.
